Artistic Adventures

Artistic Adventures are custom-designed experiences for painters and non-painters alike, who want to see France from an artist’s perspective. The common bond is an interest in seeing a slice of the French countryside, in depth, from a rented home base. Mornings are spent either painting or relaxing/exploring independently. Lunch is taken together at a local bistro en route to our afternoon sight-seeing destination. Dinner is shared back at our rented french home, relaxing together around the table.

Groups are limited to 6 participants, so we can all travel easily together. Prices include everything except air fare, personal shopping expenses and taxi from Paris hotel back to airport: all other land travel from airport and on, room, three meals a day and any museum fees are included.

BRITTANY and NORMANDY May 23-June 6, 2017

After six years, I’m returning to the quaint coasts of Brittany for a special Artistic Adventure. If you want to see thatched cottages, gardens, castles and coastlines of the Atlantic, join me for this two week adventure! A week in Brittany concludes with two nights in Paris. Though technically not part of Brittany, we’ll include a visit to the famous Unesco monument, Mont St. Michele; a true “wonder of the world.”

May 23: Depart for Paris.

May 24: We meet in the morning at Charles de Gaul Airport, then head northwest through Normandy to Honfleur, the medieval port on the Seine River.  Lunch here and spend the night on the border of Normandy and Brittany, positioning us for our next day.

May 25-June 1: See Mt.St. Michele as we head to our base in Brittany. Spend the week exploring the charming thatched villages, medieval towns, countryside and coastlines of Brittany, which is as Welsh as it is French. Possible visits to Quimper, Pont Aven and some of the islands which dot this coastline. Stone plinths of Carnac, which rival Stonehenge, are within reach, as well.

June 1: We drive on to our story book cottage on the Seine River, halfway between Giverny and Rouen. For five days we can, paint, relax by the river, visit Rouen, Giverny and the Gerberoy, the half-timbered town of roses. I’ll secure permission for us to stay after hours at Giverny to paint or just relax, watching the gardeners close up for the day. Cost: add $1200 to original package.

June 6: If we don’t return to the airport the evening of June 5, we’ll head out early in morning to drive back to CDG airport to catch your afternoon flight home, full of memories of your Artistic Adventure.

15 days Normandy/Brittany Price options: WAS SOLD OUT BUT DUE TO CANCELLATION, ONE ROOM HAS become available!

Private room: Was $4600 Now $4200!

Impressionist painters like Monet scoured the forests of Fontainebleau south to the rustic lakes and rivers of the Limousin, east of Limoges to paint en plein air. I’ve been scouting this region for some time and excited to finally offer a trip to a part of France which few visit. This trip will have slightly different housing arrangements than other Artistic Adventures; we will not be renting a house.

Proposed Itinerary

Depart U.S. June 5.

June 6: Arrive Charles de Gaul and head to the charming artist retreat of Barbizon, where the likes of Millet lived and painted the famous Gleaners and Monet painted his Haystack series. Overnight here.

June 7: Tour Fountainbleau then head south to Peyrat-le-Chateau.

June 7-12: Five nights in a lake front bed and breakfast in the mystical Limousin, painting and scouring forests, fields and lakes, in this stronghold of the Resistance. A day in Limoges and various medieval villages along the way.

June 12,13: Head back towards Paris with two nights near Georges Sand’s country estate in Nohat-Vic. See the gardens, house and hamlet where this controversial writer escaped the rat race of Paris. Painters will have some time to paint the marvelous garden.

June 14: Return to overnight at a hotel near Charles de Gaul Airport.

June 15: Catch the shuttle to your terminal and head home, full of memories of your Artistic Adventure.
